What is cavity wall insulation extraction?

Cavity wall insulation extraction is the process of removing insulation materials that have been installed within the cavity walls of your home. Insulation extraction may be necessary for various reasons, such as improper installation, deterioration of the insulation material, or water damage. If your home has had cavity wall insulation but you’re experiencing heat loss or damp problems, it could be a sign that your insulation needs replacing.

At Bundle, our mission is to help every home in the UK save money, energy, and the planet. Our expert team can extract your old insulation and replace it with new insulation that will boost your home’s warmth and reduce your energy bills. Together, we can ensure a better future for your household, your bank balance, and the planet.

  • Extraction The insulation material inside your walls is sucked out using specialised equipment. This process may take a couple of days depending on the size of the property.
  • Re-filled Once your old insulation has been extracted, your walls are ready to be filled with our advanced insulation beads, guaranteed for 25 years.
  • Save a Bundle on your bills It’s time to get cosy and enjoy money back in your pocket. Cavity wall insulation can save you around £150-£450 on your annual energy bills (depending on the size of your property).

Green benefits of cavity wall extraction + new insulation:

Greater energy efficiency

Cavity wall insulation boosts your energy efficiency and helps prevent up to 35% of heat escaping from your home. Good news for your comfort levels and your energy bills.

Lower carbon footprint

Improving your energy efficiency also means reducing your carbon footprint. Cavity wall insulation can help your home cut carbon emissions by up to 1.5 tonnes per year.

Enhanced air quality

Insulation eliminates damp, mould and condensation from your home. With proper ventilation, you’ll benefit from fresh air free of harmful pollutants and lingering odours.

Boosting renewable energy performance

A well insulated home allows renewable energy systems such as heat pumps and solar PV to last longer and perform at their best. That means even more money back in your pocket, plus greater gains for the environment.

Long lifespan

Cavity wall insulation for your home is expected to last and pay dividends for at least 25 years, if not the life of your property. Frequently Asked Questions

Cavity wall insulation extraction is not currently covered under the Great British Insulation Scheme (GBIS) or Energy Company Obligation (ECO4) schemes, except in specific circumstances related to the guarantee/warranty of the failed insulation to be removed.

However, once you have had your old insulation removed, you will be eligible for grant funding to go towards a new insulation installation.

Cavity wall extraction is a more complex process than filling the cavity wall.

It typically takes between one and three days to complete the extraction.

Cavity wall extraction typically costs from £1,500 to £2,500 depending on the size of the property and the number of cavity walls to be extracted.

Properly installed cavity wall insulation, using a modern material like polystyrene beads, should not need to be renewed.

If any building works are carried out which could disrupt the walls or the insulation, you may want to get the integrity of the insulation checked.

We don’t recommend homeowners remove cavity wall insulation themselves.

Extraction requires specialised equipment and expertise to ensure the insulation is removed safely without causing damage to the wall structure. Improper removal can lead to further issues such as moisture infiltration too.

Our expert team can assess your property and carry out the extraction effectively, ensuring your home remains safe and well-maintained.
