What is the ECO4 scheme?

The Energy Company Obligation (ECO4) is a government scheme that aims to help UK homes with the cost of energy-efficient home improvements.

This stage of the ECO scheme, which began in July 2022, is the fourth and final phase and will continue until March 2026.

Unlike other energy grants, ECO4 requires larger energy companies to help eligible homes improve their insulation, upgrade heating systems, and increase overall energy efficiency.

Am I eligible for ECO4 funding?

You have a good chance of securing ECO4 funding if you:

1.Have an EPC rating of E or lower

What if I have a low EPC rating but don’t receive benefits?

If you don’t receive qualifying benefits but have an EPC rating of E or lower, you may still be able to secure funding through ECO4 Flex.

What is ECO4 Flex?

ECO4 Flex (short for ECO4 Flexible Eligibility), is an extension of the ECO4 scheme that aims to provide support to a broader range of households.

It allows local authorities to find and refer households that don’t meet the standard ECO4 criteria, but would still benefit from financial support towards energy-efficient upgrades.

What energy-efficient measures are available under the ECO4 Scheme?

If you qualify for funding, ECO4 provides financial support towards a range of energy-efficient solutions such as:

Insulation upgrades

• Cavity wall insulation
• External wall insulation
• Internal wall insulation
• Loft insulation
• Room in Roof insulation

Renewable energy and heating upgrades

• Air source heat pump
• HHR electric storage heaters
• Solar panels
• Non-condensing gas boiler upgrade

How much funding is available through the ECO4 Scheme?

It’s worth noting that even when you meet ECO4 eligibility requirements, it’s up to the energy companies to decide which energy-saving upgrades they choose to fund and how much funding is available.

The level of funding you receive will depend on the measures proposed for your home, plus several other factors.

In some cases, you may be asked to contribute to the cost of installation.
