The Challenge of Condensation

Dean Nutbrown’s cherished home of 30 years was becoming increasingly uncomfortable. There was a growing issue with persistent condensation and Dean’s energy bills had begun to soar.

After a home survey, we found the loft insulation, installed decades ago, was outdated and had lost its effectiveness. As a result, Dean’s home was struggling to retain heat, causing a rise in energy usage and a surge in bills.

On top of this, we discovered Dean’s home lacked adequate ventilation.

The absence of proper airflow not only exacerbated the condensation issue but also threatened to undermine any benefits from insulation upgrades.

Bundle’s Approach

To tackle these problems, we proposed a two-step solution:

  1. Upgrade the loft insulation
  2. Enhance ventilation

First, we installed new, thicker insulation in the loft, reaching the ideal 270mm depth, to boost energy efficiency and create a warmer home for Dean. Then, we added extractor fans in the bathrooms and kitchen to help air circulate. Finally, we fitted trickle vents on all windows to reduce moisture and further optimise energy efficiency.

The entire project was made possible through the Great British Insulation Scheme , allowing Dean to receive these significant home upgrades without incurring any costs, a major relief given his limited pension income.

  • Close Up Of Insulation Laid In Attic Of House.
  • Air vent top of white plastic window frame to stop condensation

The Results

Projected savings: £108 per year on energy bills.

Carbon emissions: An estimated 315.4 kg saved annually.

Since the installation, Dean has been thrilled with the results. In addition to excellent energy savings, he reported a significant reduction in condensation and a noticeable improvement in the warmth of his home, especially as the colder weather arrived.

This project highlights the profound impact essential upgrades like loft insulation and improved ventilation can make in terms of household comfort and energy efficiency.

Thanks to full funding from the Great British Insulation Scheme, Dean fixed his long-standing problems with condensation and heat retention, all without spending a penny.
