Projected over a 20-year lifespan based on installation costs and energy prices at the time of installation.
Ebley Mill is a towering 200-year-old grade 2 listed building and is the largest in the Stroud valleys, originally one of the largest woollen cloth mills in the 1800s powered by waterwheels in the nearby canal and a massive steam engine to provide additional power.
Today, Ebley Mill serves as the headquarters of Stroud District Council holding up to 450 workers at any one time. As a grade 2 listed building the design and installation process were highly complex and had to be carried out while the building remained in operation.
Our approach showcases our expertise indesigning and building a complex water source heat pump. Given the building’s age and historical significance combinedwith the numerous modifications to the existing infrastructure, the distribution pipework required was highly complex.
We successfully transitioned Ebley Mill to renewable energy by creating a system that harnesses heat from the River Frome, using the water to heat the building. In addition to designing the system, we secured Environment Agency approval, conducted feasibility studies, and completed multiple surveys.
Projected savings: £3,237.85 per year on energy bills.
Carbon emissions: An estimated 151.3 tonnes saved annually.
Despite the complexity of the installation and the extensive feasibility studies required, the results stand out, transforming a towering 200-year-old listed building into a comfortable, sustainable and energy-efficient space.
