The Challenge of living off the gas grid

Rising fuel costs have created a crunch for everyone, and those living off the gas grid are no exception.

Like many rural homeowners, Simon Lisk was relying on LPG fuel, plus electricity, to heat and power his home. This approach worked for several years until Simon began to see a sharp rise in his bills. This prompted him to start exploring energy-saving alternatives.

Bundle’s Approach

After a survey of the property, we recommended an air source heat pump  to provide affordable heating throughout the property, and solar panels  with a storage battery to reduce energy bills.

To tackle Simon’s soaring energy costs, we took action by installing a dynamic and efficient system. A 16kW Midea air source heat pump, paired with a 300-litre heat pump cylinder, now satisfies the property’s heating needs using minimal energy.

To complement this, we also equipped the house with seventeen 400w Longi panels, creating a robust 6.8kW solar system. This setup is further supported by two SolaX 5.8 kWh batteries, ensuring electricity is stored for use during times of low sunlight.

The Results

Projected savings: Combined monthly energy bills were halved, with lifetime savings of £64,988.

Carbon emissions: 40 tonnes over a 20-year lifespan.

The introduction of the always-on heat pump revolutionised the energy management of Simon’s home. There was no longer any need to constantly adjust timers to balance heating usage with escalating energy costs.

The efficiency of an uninterrupted heat supply, coupled with a solar array, resulted in substantial savings, easing the financial burden by several hundred pounds each month. This smart combination has not only reduced fuel expenses significantly but also empowered Simon with a sustainable, energy-efficient solution for his property.
