What is the Great British Insulation Scheme?
The Great British Insulation Scheme is a government initiative that aims to assist UK homes with the cost of an insulation upgrade. If you qualify, you will either benefit from free insulation or receive a financial contribution to offset the costs.
Launched in April 2023, (replacing the previous ECO+ programme), the Great British Insulation Scheme is set to run until March 2026.
Am I eligible for the Great British Insulation Scheme?
The scheme aims to help those with an EPC rating of D or lower, as well as households living on lower incomes.
With this mind, eligibility for the scheme is split into two groups:
1.The general group
As part of the general group, you could be eligible for funding if:
- Your home has an EPC rating of D or below.
- Your home is in council tax band A to D in England, A to E in Scotland and Wales.
2.The low-income group
You have a good chance of qualifying for free insulation if you live in social housing or have a total household income of under £31,000 a year.
You may also be eligible if someone living at your property qualifies for the following benefits:
- Child Tax Credit
- Working Tax Credit
- Universal Credit
- Pension Guarantee Credit
- Pension Savings Credit
- Income Support
- Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance (JSA)
- Income-related Employment and Support Allowance (ESA)
- Child Benefit
- Housing Benefit
How does the Great Insulation Scheme work?
The Great British Insulation Scheme obliges energy suppliers to help customers with insulation upgrades to improve the energy efficiency of their homes.
It’s worth noting that costs can be covered in full through the scheme. Alternatively, you may be asked to contribute to part of the insulation costs, depending on your circumstances.
